TANZIO DA VARALLO AND THE FIRST SEVENTEENTH CENTURY

From the masterpieces of the painter of Alagna to paintings and sculptures that tell the cultural climate of the time

The hall dedicated to Tanzio da Varallo, one of the greatest artists of the Italian seventeenth century, hosted the ancient School of Drawings and the original Pinacoteca.

Born in Alagna to a Walser family, Tanzio moved to Rome and then to Naples, before returning to the North, where his exhilarating artistic journey unfolded.

Among the exhibited works are the two canvases with David and Goliath, unforgettable to anyone who has seen them.

The collection is enriched by paintings and sculptures that illustrate the contemporary cultural climate both within and outside Valsesia.
